Someone is creeping around in the dark and at first I think it is Justin in sociopath mode again, but it is Scotty with shoes in hand. He is coming in late from work and unsuccessfully trying not to wake up Kevin. When he crashes into something, he apologizes, but couldn't really help it because there is not enough room in there to swing a cat. The weird turn of phrase wakes Kevin up more fully. He asks, "Did you just say swing a cat?" And then I fall in love with both of them a little. They are so great together and I am so glad that Scotty is actually in this episode! And off the damn couch! Since Kevin is awake, Scotty wants to know if he can tell him about his day, but Kevin says no. Because he got him a present! It's a framed magazine cover featuring Scotty and four other hot up-and-coming chefs in LA. Scotty thanks him. He has the perfect place to put it -- his new office! Kevin is confused and Scotty excitedly tells him that he just got promoted to head chef! Kevin gives him a huge kiss. Sarah is throwing Scotty a celebratory dinner party on Saturday and now they have even more to celebrate! Scotty is totally in love with the Walkers lately and he is so glad they are his family, especially since his parents are so uptight. Kevin laughs that the Walkers like Scotty better than they like him. Scotty is also excited about bringing home a bigger paycheck. Maybe they can get a place with cat-swinging room! They giggle and fall into bed.
Kitty is staring intently at the television, shaking her head in dismay at the hard luck story they are portraying on the charity infomercial. When she hears The Senator coming she pretends to be working feverishly on the computer and claims to have insomnia. The Senator doesn't believe it for a second. He knows Kitty is beating herself up over the failed adoption. He reminds her that it is not her fault; I remind her that it is. Kitty tells The Senator to go back to bed. She'll join him in a minute as soon as she is done with her work. What is she working on? Making a charitable donation to hard working mothers who can't make it and now have beautiful homes to call their own. Which I think is a subtle pitch for Emergency Makeover: Home Edition. That is one show I refuse to watch in public because I always end up crying. And not just silent sniffles, but with the occasional wracking sob. It's embarrassing. The Senator looks at Kitty with concern.
At Walker Manor, Nora has invited Saul over for breakfast. She wants to show off how prepared she is to go to the housing auction later that day. She has everything filled out and is pre-approved and is going to buy the house for her Nora McDonald House. Saul's inner CFO can't help but look over the paperwork. Justin rolls out of bed and is surprised to see Saul there, but, I'm not sure why. I mean, he's retired. He's supposed to be loitering at his sister's house. He should also be wearing a muumuu, taking merengue lessons, raising crickets, and teaching himself Chinese. And hitting all the early bird dinner specials. So it shouldn't be surprising that he is at his sister's house. Nora is so proud of herself for going to this auction. She is bidding on two properties, either of which would be perfect as the flagship Nora McDonald House. And, she has never bought a house before. Total milestone moment! Justin can't help but point out that this is the second house Nora bought. Nora rolls her eyes at her pesky kid and explains that his father bought the house as an anniversary present. Holy hell, which anniversary is the real estate one? Or is that just what cheating husbands do? Might be worth it. That is a nice piece of property. Saul bids farewell to go await the air conditioner repairman and polish some silver, which is a good first step towards proper retirement activities. When Saul steps away, Justin shakes his head at the poor bored man with nothing to do all day. Nora looks at him and says, "Hello pot, have you met kettle?" Which makes me think she's been reading TWoP again. Justin har hars, but reminds her that he has a girlfriend and his NA meetings and his recruiting duties. Even he realizes that sounds pathetic. And, truly, it does.
