Buffy's house. Buffy exits the bathroom. She shuffles along to her room. Giles hands her a glass of water. She's all hungover. She sits down at the foot of the bed, presses her palm against her forehead, and confesses, "I'm really screwing up, Giles." Giles sits down on the edge of the bed beside her and consoles her. He tells her that she's pushing herself too hard, and that she doesn't need to have all the answers right away. "The nice people at the phone company seem to think it's not hard enough," she glumps. Giles says that he can help with that, and reaches into his magic bag to pull out a check of significant enough size to bring tears to Buffy's eyes. She gets up to go show Dawn, and as she's leaving, she turns back to Giles and says, "I just want to tell you that, um, this makes me feel safe. Knowing that you're always gonna be here." Giles gives a shy half smile and manages to control his expression until Buffy is gone. The camera focuses on Giles thinking to himself, "I'm so glad that silly girl doesn't watch the credits. Otherwise, she'd figure out that I'm not a regular this season."
