The arm continues to choke Buffy as Willow, Oz, Cordy, Xander, and Giles look on and pretty much do nothing to help. Angel manages to break the hand's grip on Buffy's neck and force it back into the box; he and Giles then slam the lid shut. Quipeth Xander, "Well, clearly the Hellmouth's answer to 'What do you get the Slayer who has everything?'" As Giles frets over Buffy's well-being, Willow wonders what "that" was, and Oz oh-so-helpfully explains, "It looked like an arm." Angel seems to recognize the arm and muses, "She wouldn't." The gang prods him into explaining himself, and he tells them a legend of a demon that was summoned to "rid the Earth of the plague of humanity." Apparently, this demon was to "burn the righteous down" and was called the Judge. Giles fills in a few more details, explaining that the Judge was unkillable and was finally chopped into pieces by an army, who spread those pieces across the Earth. Buffy catches on that Drusilla is trying to reassemble the Judge. Upon hearing the news that reassembling the Judge will "bring forth Armageddon," Cordelia is unimpressed and chirps, "Is anybody else gonna have cake?" Jenny Calendar, sensing a way to separate Angel and Buffy, suggests that Angel should take the Judge's arm far away and rebury it. Whiny birthday-girl Buffy doesn't care for this idea at all, but Angel feels he must do it and plans to leave right away.
In Spike and Drusilla's warehouse lair, Drusilla is pissed at Dalton because he lost her "present." Dalton tries to excuse himself by blaming it on the Slayer, but Dru flings off his glasses and is about to gouge out his eyes when Spike suggests that Dru give Dalton a chance to recover the box. With Dru's clawed fingers in front of his eyes, Dalton promises to recover the Judge's arm. Dru makes one of her annoying little crazy faces and then replaces Dalton's crushed glasses on his face. I don't want to tell tales out of school, but looking at Dru's arms in this scene makes me think that "pursuing a movie career" is industry shorthand for "detox." You can see individual veins.
