The three goons have lost Xander. They fan out. Meathead grabs an axe. "Good for chopping." And here I thought "axe not gonna cut it" didn't have a precursor. Blech. Xander, in the lounge, is set upon by Meathead. Xander gets the better of him, and uses the axe to tip a soda machine onto his head. In a probably unintentional funny moment, Meathead doesn't even react as the soda machine falls. Blond Boy appears and sees Meathead's no-longer-animated corpse. Xander appears, wielding the axe. "You shoulda learned by now, if you're gonna play with fire, you gotta expect sooner or later --" Blonde Boy runs. Xander: "I wasn't finished!" Heh. "Note to self: Less talk." Wordy-fucking-word.
The library doors open, and Buffy is thrown through them about thirty feet. A few of the Hellmouth's heads shriek at her. She yells, "Faith! Go for the heart!" as she runs back in. This is another moment that should have been played for laughs, but doesn't come off as funny at all.
Xander chases Blond Boy. They round a corner, then come back into view with three of the Sisterhood chasing them. Xander takes off in one direction, but Blond Boy runs into an office, where the demons corner and kill him. Xander observes this, and tries to make for the boiler room, but one of the Hellmouth's heads busts through the wall. He opts to go the other way. Why is the Sisterhood tooling around in the hall instead of fighting the Scoobs? Sigh.
Xander hits the boiler room, and sees the large bomb. He wonders how to disarm it. Tool appears and hits him. Sure, stick around to hit the guy who doesn't know how to disarm the bomb instead of getting a safe distance away. This plot has so many holes that it's not actually a plot. It's just loose transparent netting. If you look real hard you can see something, but not much. They fight, and Tool draws his knife. A bit of boring posturing, and then a standoff as Tool finally realizes how little time is left on the clock. Xander says Tool can't get by him and out of the building in time. Tool points out that Xander will die. Xander seems prepared for that. I wouldn't mind this resolution if they had built up to it at all in the rest of the episode. Tool says that he's already dead, but Xander counters that this isn't "drinking with your buddies dead," but being blown to smithereens dead. Speaking of which, I'm going to drink until I'm blown to smithereens after I finish this recap. I've earned it. Xander says Tool's not ready for that. Tool: "Are you?" Xander half-smiles: "I like the quiet." Then let's have some already. The clock would have hit zero by now, but I'm past caring.
