Outside the officer in charge ends a telephone call and tells Riley, wearing a suit because he was late to church, that command has been deferred to him. He approaches the church and runs into Fuffy headed the same direction. She asks how many vampires are in there and when she learns there are only three she says she can handle it. Riley tells her to wait for the troops but she says in a very firm voice, "Don't tell me what to do!" Oh, how I wish real Buffy would be so assertive with Riley! Riley says he's going with her. Fuffy lightly punches Riley in his wound and when he winces in pain she tells him that she has no use for him and to take care of anyone who might come out.
Fuffy barges into the church and the head vampire reminds her that he told the cops if they sent anyone in he would start the bloodbath. Fuffy says she isn't with the cops and that she only came here to pray. Fuffy tells the head vampire that he's not going to kill these people "because it's wrong" and I think that's supposed to be character development because this time she means it, but to be honest I'm pretty bored by this episode. One of the vampire henchmen rushes her from behind but she flips him over her head and over the pews to crash into the wall. "You're the Slayer?" queries the head vampire and Fuffy confidently replies, "the one and only." If you think about it that's pretty much the essence of Faith's dilemma. She can't share the Slayer duties. She wants to be the one and only, but more than that she wants to be Buffy. Meanwhile the other Slayer is headed for the church in the armored van. It comes to a screeching halt as Willow, Tara and Baith jump out the back. A policeman tries to shoo them away and Willow argues with him for a moment until Giles steps up to create a very exaggerated arm waving diversion. "Our families are in there. O-o-our mothers and tiny, tiny babies!" shouts Giles lamely as Baith sneaks around the other side of the truck. I have to say that ASH's delivery of that line was my favorite moment this whole episode.
Back in the church the head vampire says that he's not afraid of anything anymore. Fuffy suggests letting the hostages go and then three of them can fight her. Instead the head vampire opts to fight right now. Fuffy takes on the vampires as the hostages run out in the ensuing melee. At one point she breaks off a piece of the hymn book holder and uses it to stake a vampire while flipping him up into the air so that he explodes mid-somersault. One of the vampire henchmen decides to take off and he runs out the door, with a jacket covering is head, straight into the arms of Riley. As if that wasn't bad enough, he briefly struggles with Riley until Riley shoves him, sans jacket, into the sunlight. "You forgot your coat," says Riley to the burning figure. The sounds alert Baith who runs to Riley and hugs him. "It's okay, miss. We'll get you out of harm's way," says Riley. "Riley, it's me. Never mind," says Baith, "How many are in there?" A confused Riley asks, "Well. Who are you?"
