A phone rings again and Chuck runs over to it. Ned apologizes to Chuck for shooting his friend, but Chuck's okay with it because he wants to shoot him sometimes, too. Mauser's on the phone asking what's going on since they heard shots. Chuck tells him it was just an accident; that someone lost the majority of his toe, but otherwise they're all fine. Ned still won't talk to Mauser, so Mauser asks through Chuck what Ned's demands are. Ned has to think about it, so they ask Mauser to call back in five minutes. After they hang up, Chuck asks Ned what he's going to do. Ned says he should call his wife, because she'll know what to do. Chuck thinks this is a great idea, and thinks everyone else should be allowed to call and check in with a loved one, too. Ned says that's fine.
Then we get an "I'll Be Home For Christmas" montage of people talking to their loved ones. First Ned talking to his wife, then Ellie and Awesome talking to the Awesomes. He tells them everything is "awesome," but then says, "Well, not really, but we'll be all right." Lester calls a love chat line. Jeff calls a prison and asks for a prisoner also known as his mom. Morgan tries to talk to Anna, but she tells him to save his breath. Big Mike talks to Al. Casey calls his mom, and calls himself "Johnny Boy." Sarah doesn't have anyone to call. But her phone rings. It's Chuck. He's at the DVDs, so she joins him there. She says it was pretty smart to call her when Ned let everyone call their loved ones. That protects their cover. He says she is his girlfriend -- sort of. She asks if his Christmas offer still stands, and he says he knew she could be heartwarmed. Then he presents her with a gift. It's a silver charm bracelet for good luck. It was his mom's bracelet that his dad gave her when Ellie was born. Sarah says she can't take it because it's something real, that he should give to a real girlfriend. He says he knows, and then they just look at each other, all sweet and knowing. Then the phone rings and Ned calls for Chuck. He leaves Sarah speechless.
Chuck answers the phone, and Mauser wants to know what Ned wants. He just wants to go home and spend Christmas with his family. Mauser tells Chuck he's coming in unarmed. He wants to talk so that everyone can get home for Christmas. Chuck opens the door and lets him in. Ned points his gun at him, but Mauser says he's completely unarmed. Ned tells him he doesn't want to go to jail, and Mauser says they'll work on that, but for now let's make a trade: Mauser inside for two hostages let go. Ned agrees to it, and Mauser wants to start with the injured man. Casey says he's okay, and Ellie should go instead. Ellie insists Casey go since his toe could be infected. Ned turns to Chuck and says that he'll let Chuck's girlfriend go since Chuck's been a good friend. Chuck yells, "No!" Which is hilarious because of how everyone reacts. Ellie says, "Chuck?" Jeff says, "Ouch," and Lester says, "Yikes. It's going to be a cold Christmas at the Bartowskis." Some lady we've never seen before says, "Oh no he didn't." Chuck tries to explain, but none of it makes sense. Everyone looks at him like he's the biggest jerk ever. Chuck tries to talk Ned into letting everyone leave instead, but Ned's like, "No. Just those two." Casey and Sarah both talk quietly to Chuck on the way out. Sarah tells him she'll never let anyone hurt him. (This will come into play sooner than either of them realize.)
