The motorcade arrives at the White House, and Mac pauses as she exits the car to look at the half-mast flag. Becca is still sullen, this time worried about how long they'll be there, since they need to pack up the old house. Chief Usher Waverly introduces himself to show the entire First Family around the residence. A shot from behind him shows snipers on the roof. Hmm, we're not in Kansas anymore. Okay, so we weren't really in Kansas before, either, so much as in the Observatory. But "we're not in the Observatory anymore" is too many syllables. Vince pulls Mac away as Rod lets her know that he wants to talk about Keaton later, since he has some thoughts. It's a good subtle beginning to his realizing he's not part of the game like he used to be, or wants to be.
We cut to a press conference as Hale Richardson, White House Press Secretary, is bombarded with questions. The majority focus on Mac's decision to send Marines in to rescue Oria Madula; everyone wants to know how she came to do it. Hale answers, "Well, the War Powers Act required her to notify Congress. Let's move on." Uh-oh. I don't know diddly about politics, but any time the word "War" is included, that sounds bad.
Back at the residence, a door opens with a Marine standing sentry, and Chief Usher Waverly leads the Calloways into the East Room, with the entire house staff lined up on either side of a red carpet. And all of a sudden, this episode becomes an homage to Annie as the servants begin dancing and the kids jump into a rousing chorus of "I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here." Or, at least maybe that will happen when Bochco's episodes start airing. Musicals and naked man asses -- all of the things I love, coming together! But did I really want those two things to be together? Wow, I'm in a strange place. Time to back out slowly and return to the East Room, where a blonde woman strides up the carpet as the family is gaping. It's NoraBot! Rod has a hint of "deer in the headlights" on his face, but Horace and Becca just look awestruck. NoraBot introduces herself and, in a rush, offers fake hellos to everyone. Amy says hi, so she gets a wave and an extra-perky hello back. NoraBot gasps a giant breath and rushes on to explain that she's the White House Social Director as well as, "[their] father's right hand in the First Gentleman's office." Finally, with the correct terminology! Rod is semi-amused. Waverly goes on: "At your disposal there are four housekeepers, three valets, and of course several full-time chefs all of whom would be happy to make you anything you like, twenty-four hours a day." Sweeter-than-a-box-of-puppies Amy asks, "Even ice cream sundaes at midnight?" "As many as you want."
