The camera pulls back to the scene, showing Alexx as the one holding Ruthie's hand and looking extremely stricken. Showing a lot of gentleness in the way she handles Ruthie, Alexx says, "Facial edema and petechial hemorrhages indicate raised venous pressure concurrent with asphyxia." Horatio looks down and notes, "The blue around her lips is so turquoise, Alexx." Alexx explains, "Deoxygenated hemoglobin usually is more purple-blue, but cyanosis coloring is really subjective, and who knows, under these lights?" Horatio wonders why there are no bruises, and Alexx tells him, "Ecchymosis can take up to twenty-four hours to fully develop, but yeah, we should see at least minimal erythema if she was strangled, or ruptured capillaries around her mouth if she was smothered, and I see neither." Alexx looks seriously distraught by now, but Horatio keeps on topic by asking, "So how did he kill her?" Before Alexx can answer, a uniform comes in to tell him that the brass back at HQ is beginning to hover and the media have descended. Alexx pops back into the conversation to tell Horatio that the killer took a souvenir -- Ruthie's underwear. The two of them take a moment to look upset, and then we cut to Alexx and Horatio accompanying a stretcher with Ruthie's body outside. Predictably, reporters are shouting questions. A reporter asks, "Is it true she was raped? Is there any indication the killer will strike again soon?" Horatio addresses the microphone with: "I'm not going to comment on evidence, but what I will say is this animal provided us with a mountain of evidence and we will not sleep until we've been all the way through it, because beneath that mountain lies his grave. Thank you very much." Beneath a mountain lies a grave? So Horatio's telling us Balin the dwarf did this?
