That meditation on their own mortality over, Gil and David turn to examining precisely why Rivers died. It could have been the cut across his carotid (which we see, in TMICam close-up, from the hockey blade's POV), or the significant trauma the basilar artery also suffered, or the blood flooding through the intimal space and possibly causing syncope. Primer for those of us who are not well-versed in human anatomy: the basilar artery is a cerebral vessel, so it affects blood flow to the brain; it can be responsible for strokes and migraine headaches. Syncope is a sudden, brief loss of consciousness. I couldn't find a lucid definition of intimal space. Perhaps the forum can help there. ["An intima is the innermost coat of an organ." -- Sars] Anyway, Gil asks, "Did his death cause his fall? Or did his fall cause his death?"
Back at the Las Vegas ice arena, Catherine and Brass are comparing notes; apparently, he was in the other locker room, interrogating Team Area 51. Brass shares his results: Rivers was something of an ass. We see that Catherine and Brass have been collecting the hockey equipment for later inspection. Catherine heads outside to question one last person on the Area 51 roster, one Jane Gallagher. Catherine catches Jane as she's heading toward her motorcycle. The following conversation demonstrates that even on her worst days, Catherine isn't nearly the bitch on wheels that Jane is.
