The Gods Must Be Crazy

Medical Center; Thirty-nine Days Into Observation: Claire dictates notes into her hand-held tape recorder, noting Cupid's still delusional. After she passes him playing Ping Pong with Isaac and giving him romantic advice, she sneers and makes a side note: "He has managed to win over much of the staff." And we cut to...

Claire's Office: She's quizzing Cupid on Greek and Roman mythology, but he's more interested in the picture of the view from her apartment, which is so pretty, he at first confused it for a postcard. She persists in her line of questioning, which I'm not going to transcribe because you've all had some mythology by now. Here was the highlight for me, starting with Cupid's description of Olympus: "Non-stop, clothing-optional party. An amazing place, you have no idea." Claire says she has a vague idea. "You just described the Playboy Mansion." She returns her gaze to the mythology book in her hands. "Mercury -- tell me about him." Cupid chuckles. "Gangsta's got my back..." Aha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Hoo! I'm sorry, but I can't help but wonder if Piven saw that. There was more to it, but I laugh harder every time I watch so let's move on. Venus and Mars are his folks; Romulus founded Rome blah blah blah ambrosia cakes. When she gets to Psyche, Cupid's wife, he has no idea what she's talking about, and denies he's ever heard of her. And we cut to...

Day 90; Cupid's Competency Hearing:

Claire tells the review board that although the patient still insists he's Cupid, he poses no danger to himself or others. The camera pans to the board, which consists of an unknown woman (left) an unknown man (center) and Dr. Charles Boyd (right). Inscribed in the wall behind them is the phrase:

THE WORLD FELT THE TREMOR
AND THE DARKNESS WAS PIERCED
