Max is at Logan's pad. Logan puts on two pairs of rubber gloves to protect himself from virus contact. He unzips Max's shirt and checks out the symbols on her back. I think this scene is supposed to be rife with sexual tension, but it's so not. Max says that it's awkward, and Logan agrees. He takes out a digital camera and takes pictures of the symbols. Max says that they appeared last night, and asks if Logan has had any luck with translation. Logan says that he's making progress, but some of the symbols are still missing. Logan finishes with the pictures, and Max pulls her shirt back up onto her shoulders. Okay, so she's wearing some sort of turtleneck that zips up the back, and I want to know how in the hell she got that thing zipped up when she put it on this morning. Maybe OC helped her. Logan tells Max that Sandeman put the symbols into her DNA. Max wonders why he didn't give her x-ray vision or something useful. Logan touches Max's hand and says that maybe her powers haven't shown up yet. Max says she has to leave. Logan caresses her gloved hand with his own and then gets up to zip Max's shirt up for her. Logan says he'll call if he finds anything. Max leaves. Logan washes his hands in something -- bleach, maybe?
A pregnant woman and a young boy walk down the street cautiously. The woman spots some cops and puts up her hood, then crosses the street to avoid them. The boy asks if they are headed in the right direction. The woman thinks so, but then she has a contraction or something. After it passes, she spots a hoverdrone approaching. She and the boy hide in a phone booth to avoid having their picture taken by the hoverdrone, and then continue walking down the street. A van approaches and screeches to a stop. The woman and the boy start to run away, but the van door opens and Joshua appears, urging them into the van. They hop in. The woman is named Gem, and she's an X5. The boy is named Dalton, and he's an X6. Joshua asks about her baby's due date. Gem says that the baby was due last week, and they were headed for Terminal City. Mole, who is driving the van, turns to make a comment about the medical facilities at Terminal City; thus distracted, he hits a truck that pulls out in front of him. Joshua ascertains that all of their passengers are all right. Mole can't get the truck started. Joshua notices that bystanders are starting to gather and says that they need to go. Two angry guys get out of the truck that was hit. Mole still can't start the truck. The truck's owner calls Mole a "punk-ass." Mole opens his door and reveals himself, and the shotgun he's holding. He fires a warning shot into the air, and the truck owner and all of the bystanders take off running. Joshua thinks that they should run too. Mole says, "We don't run. We fall back." I think I like Mole better than Max too. He can be on the Dark Alec spin-off.
