Benton approaches Brooke and asks for a minute of her time. She refuses, aware that he wants sympathy and "someone to say, 'Fight the good fight' and 'That's why I fell in love with you in the first place,' but forget it." Benton stares after her as she drifts away, asking a passing Hildy why Brooke is so mad all the time. "You broke her heart," offers Hildy. "What heart?" retorts Wallace. "You know, she DID marry you," Hildy says, to which Wallace responds that she's now divorcing him. These are wit-bullets, people. Hildy is surprised because she thought it was the other way around. "It's confusing -- are we legally married, are we legally separated...?" Wallace trails off. "Which one is it?" Hildy asks. Wallace: "It depends...on how many drinks we've had." Please stop. Banter this sharp could put someone's eye out. Hildy opens her laptop -- a far cry from the archaic beige box polluting Wally's desk -- and grins that "for a WASP, [Brooke] is very in touch with her anger." And that's it. Lili Taylor, we love you, but get a better agent, okay? You just débuted in a show that gave you two scenes, one of which is designed to engender interest in a relationship between two people that are not you. Quit, Lili. Quitters CAN win.
