BACK @ HOTEL
Joanna & Julian are still tickled by the Fifty Shades of Sad they just walked into, but Joanna will not be dissuaded from her task. Except for how like in every episode she ends up getting distracted from her task and in this episode manages to deduce two things wrong, which is especially upsetting because she only deduces two things total.
Joanna: "What a lark! Hey, what kinds of severe side effects do you think Lyritrol probably has that he was talking about?"
Julian: "No idea. The trials went awesome, we couldn't have asked for better results."
Joanna: "Just straight-up lying to me, huh? That's cool. Let's continue getting drunker and drunker until we do it anyway."
The second Julian is down the hall getting ice, Joanna surprises an intruder who's after his laptop and then -- intrepid, remember -- she tackles the guy and fights him all the way out onto the balcony, where Julian eventually "saves" her with a glancing blow from the ice bucket. The guy absents himself from the situation, like a cowardly ninja into the night and Julian holds Joanna back from giving chase.
Moments later, he tends her wounds in his remarkably douchey way -- "I'm a doctor, I have like a diploma and everything" -- and before you know it, they are almost about to kiss... but then they don't kiss. I guess Joanna remembered who she was or something. Or maybe being bloodied in a fight protecting the laptop of a person who just lied to her face isn't the biggest turn-on, who can say.
BOARD MEETING
You can immediately see where Edward's coming from, in re: Roger.
Roger: "The board gets no joy out of asking you to relinquish your seat..."
Edward: "Yeah I realize that, Roger."
Roger: "But really, your poor family. It's about them."
Flashback! Tater was not buying Vivian's starry-eyed dedication to her cause of ruining their family business and pointed out that she'd only been sober for six weeks -- so I guess she got pregnant and become a convert on basically the same day? -- and also that he was ambivalent because he had to protect his family, just like Roger is saying. Goddamned Roger.
"What about the test victims? Who's gonna protect them? Look, I know that doing the right thing matters to you. You promised me that you would help me. So please, help me!"
