Addy finds Jason in her office. He's brought chili, potato chips, and burgers all the way from Ohio. Addy is charmed. Yeah, just wait 'til you're both gassing up the bedroom tonight. At the courthouse, Liam and Dylan meet with the ADA. Kevin's sobriety story holds up, so if he pleads guilty to involuntary manslaughter, he'll get two years. She leaves, giving them the coroner's report on the victim. Dylan looks through the file and sees the victim died of a blow to the back of the head. Blunt-force trauma, hit with an object of some kind. No one saw Kevin hit him with anything but his fist. It's not proof that Kevin is innocent but it could provide them with "reasonable doubt" at trial. All they need is more time. At the arraignment, they approach Judge Joan to file a motion to move the proceedings (and thus cycle through to a different judge), claiming he and Dylan have "schedule conflicts" today. Judge Joan sees through their ruse and denies the motion. She says the two-year offer is a generous one. Dylan points out that Kevin maintains his innocence. The judge says if he's found guilty at trial, she will sentence him to life. Dylan wants time for his client to at least consider the plea, but Judge Joan gives them all of 15 minutes.
Dylan, Liam, and Kevin confab in the back of the courtroom. They're frantically trying to come to a decision about what to do when Kevin sees his father motioning to Dylan. Dylan goes over to talk to him. Dylan tries to convince him that Kevin has worked hard to turn his life around but Mr. Mather wants Kevin to take the deal. "Just give him one more chance," Dylan pleads. "He's broken my heart too many times," Mather says. Dylan goes back to Liam and Kevin with a sad face. Kevin, realizing his father has no faith in him, is crestfallen. Judge Joan starts counting down their last ten seconds from the bench. She raises the gavel. "I plead guilty!" Kevin shouts. The gavel falls.
Later at the jail, Dylan and Liam point out to Kevin (who's sporting a spiffy new orange jumpsuit) that the plea agreement is on the way over. Since he hasn't signed it yet, there's time to change his mind. He refuses. He says that if the case goes to trial, his dad won't pay for them to stay on the case. Liam offers to do it free of charge, which earns him a surprised look of admiration from Dylan. As the guard approaches to take Kevin away, Dylan tells Kevin to fake an illness. If he can get into the infirmary, it'll delay his signing the agreement and buy them time. Kevin doesn't think it'll work, so Liam surreptitiously punches him in the gut. Kevin doubles over, retching and coughing. The guard takes him away. "Feel better!" Liam calls after him. Heh. Dylan gives Liam his cutest chipmunk smile.
