...but when the machine appears to eat his money, after shaking it for a moment, he breathes, "Just let him be okay. Please let him be okay." He adds that if there's something he needs to do in return, he's game, whereupon the machine comes to life and spits out a cup of coffee. I hope whoever fielded that request knows he was really talking about the other thing.
In their creepy church or whatever, Colin Hanks finds EJO painting, and the latter turns and asks if he's going out with that waitress. Colin Hanks says he could cancel and stick around, but EJO tells him they were given free will for a reason. "You can do whatever you want. As long as you're willing to... accept the consequences God gives you." Colin Hanks considers the VERY CREEPY implications of this statement before saying it's just dinner, and he'll be home by ten. EJO does not dignify this with an answer, but once Colin Hanks is gone, he turns and stares after him. Shudder.
At dinner, the waitress (her name is Erin) asks if Colin Hanks is close with his parents, and he says he was, but they died in a car accident when he was fourteen, so his sister raised him after that. Erin takes his hand and says they were lucky to have each other...
