"Are You…A Serial Killer"?

In his car, DVO does admit that he shouldn't be doing a kill now, as we get a shot of a building that looks like it's modeled on the Leaning Tower of Pisa? Maybe it's a metaphor for how askew Dexter's life has turned! Or maybe it's just the angle from which they shot it, but it sure looks weird. Inside, Dexter notes that someone packed in a hurry, and finds a shirt flecked with blood and gunshot residue. Dexter then wonders how careless Viktor might have been in his haste, and opens his laptop to see he booked a first-class ticket to Kiev on a flight leaving in two hours. Well, I hope Dexter kills him in time for someone else to get an upgrade.

So, now Dexter is speeding toward the airport, but we know it's not because he's fleeing the country one step ahead of the law. And although I didn't think he'd actually leave, the first scene did leave enough doubt that I thought he might at least be intending to leave, so I found this a pretty well-done fake-out, although if you were looking for something to label as lame, the part about stupid Greene canceling his credit cards would probably be at the top of the list. They don't show the race to the airport again (because as I said, the episode is pretty full), but we do see him buying the ticket once more under the name "Hartwell," and the woman does raise an eyebrow at him paying for the almost-two-grand fare in cash, but he explains, "Dog track." Heh. This is a fairly expensive kill, though. Couldn't you have bought a ticket to the Bahamas, Dexter? Dexter goes through security, getting the TSA agent to approve the needles in his bag by explaining they're for diabetes. It'd certainly be hilarious if the agent asked him to demonstrate one on himself, but given that he claims to have a prescription, I could buy Dexter being prepared enough actually to have one filled with insulin for just such an occasion. Inside, Dexter quickly catches sight of his prey and DVO intones "Hello, Viktor." Not quite as intimidating as when John Lithgow said it out loud.

Okay, with all the good stuff going on with Deb and Dexter, I'm not going to cheapen it by pretending to care about what the rest of the department is up to, so here's the bare-tits version: Batista, Quinn and some other officers enter the strip club and announce that they're investigating Soroka's murder and also that of one of their own. Quinn has the employees line up against one wall "and the rest of you perverts" against the other, like he doesn't have a platinum membership at his local gentleman's club. Batista then calls out the manager and it's Jason Gedrick, who is not looking as good as he did in the days of Backdraft and other '90s offerings, although the stupid animal-pelt hair he's sporting sure isn't helping. Jason Gedrick is appropriately oily in telling Batista he sure is sorry about Soroka and Anderson, but they had nothing to do with their deaths. Batista asks for a list of Jason Gedrick's employees...
