The meeting is over and Angel pulls Deb to the side. He tells her that, after months of asking, his budget request is coming through and Homicide is getting extra money. Deb is psyched. She thinks they should get a crime site imager. Really? Well, Angel was thinking that he might use that money to pay for her new salary as Detective! It takes her a second to get it, but she's very excited. She thanks him profusely and he tells her that all he needs is for Maria to sign the paperwork. He tells her "good work" then walks away.
Deb pops into Dexter's office and tells him the news. Dexter congratulates her and says that they should celebrate, but it will have to be later. He has to pick up the kids and go to the tailor (that's gotta be a helluva tailor to fix that suit). Then, he tells her that Harry would be proud. Deb gives a wan smile and Dexter says that Harry's approval still means a lot, even though he may have been flawed. She agrees, in a way. She points out that he is getting married and she just made detective. "The Morgans are gonna be alright." She tells him she'll see him at the rehearsal dinner and leaves.
She promptly goes downstairs to talk to Frances, the woman working in archives. She asks her if she's had any progress pulling the files of the female CI's Harry worked with. She could really use a vision from Harry right now to smooth all of this out. Frances says that she hasn't had a chance to look through everything, but wants to make sure Deb really wants to go through with this. She suggests that some things are best left in the box, but Deb says that she needs to put a face on the mistress. Frances says that knowing her face isn't going to change anything, but she agrees to send up the findings as soon as she is done.
Maria takes Dexter into her office. She has just heard that the freeway interchange near her house is about to be named after Miguel. She wants to out him for killing Ellen. Dexter tells her that the only evidence they have (aside from the ring, which she doesn't know about) was obtained illegally, and is thus inadmissible. Maria vows to tear his life apart, but Dex reminds her that she'd actually only be hurting his family. Because dead people don't hurt. She asks if she's just supposed to keep her knowledge secret and Dex suggests that she must. She hates secrets. "We all have them," drones Dexter like he's Vincent Price. Seriously, if I didn't think something was wrong with him, I would after he said that. She asks how she's supposed to live with this knowledge that she has and Dexter replies, "You just do."
