...and then we get our, no lie, THIRD establishing shot in this episode of Miami Fucking Metro, which I think really is starting to make my brain leak out of my ears. Not, however, to the point where I can deal with Deb CHECKING HER VOICEMAIL again, like, if this is how she deals with boundaries I'm amazed Dexter was able to stand having her at his place for even one night.
Quinn appears in the door, and when she notes he's "looming," he steps in and doesn't beat around the bush in apologizing for "being an asshole" at her party, for sleeping with Porter, and...for proposing to her. Her eyes go wide at that last bit, and he admits that he only did it because he thought that's what people do after a certain period of time, which: Thank you for that sentiment, which I think is more common than people realize. Deb points out that they could have talked about it before he sprang the ring on her, but rather than discuss that, Quinn asks for confirmation that they had something good together, and Deb gives it. He tells her there are still times when he comes home expecting her to be there, and then he sees the place is all neat and it hits him all over again. Heh.
She gets up, and they lean against her desk side by side and bond over how weird it is for her to be in LaGuerta's office, and then, with some emotion, she admits she wanted to tell him her good news before anyone else, but...well, you know. He takes responsibility, saying he made that difficult, but she knows she'd hurt him, and she apologizes. He huskily tells her he misses her, and it's obvious at this point they're going to kiss, which they do...but it's not right, and she looks so sad as she tells him she can't. He realizes it's really over, and she smiles wistfully; he gives her a kiss on the cheek, and she answers with another watery smile before he leaves. Good scene; realistic in premise and well-acted in execution, and even with Deb pissing me off lately and Quinn being Quinn, it made me care about characters that I should always be caring about. Was that really so hard?
