And They Lived Stabbily Ever After

Anyway, so they begin the briefing with an announcement from Masuka that forensics have determined that Quinn and Deb are cleared of any wrongdoing in the restaurant shooting. The shooter was a disgruntled former employee. Deb scoffs that people are dead because this guy wanted his job back waiting tables. I doubt seriously he thought he was going to get his job back. Next order of business. Angel wants to know what's up with the investigation into Omar Rivera's death. He's the guy with the snakes in the chest. Dexter says that, as they had thought, the snakes and stitches happened post-mortem. Masuka says that he and his "lovely intern" Ryan are waiting for the medical examiner to return with info about the snakes. Angel says that Rivera had ties to a drug cartel and, in that culture, a snake means a snitch; so, if it's not about drugs, he doesn't know what this could be about. Dexter VO's that maybe Angel doesn't get it because it's in a language only Dexter understands.

Suddenly, Quinn asks about a "holy piece of shit" that he sees in the station. Dexter recognizes him. It's Brother Sam (played by Mos Def -- I think he's freaking fantastic) and Dexter VO's that he recognizes him. Rivera worked at Brother Sam's body shop when he got out of jail. Quinn says that Sam and his ex-con friends can go to hell, and then everyone disperses. Masuka tells Dex that Sam runs a body shop as sort of a halfway house for former inmates, though most of the cops think it's a sham. Dex agrees that Sam can't be a man of the cloth -- he's a killer. I guess that's how he recognized him.
