MONDO EXTRAS
Dirtier Sexier...Money-er?
The Darling family, minus Tripp, has gathered in their drawing room, as Letitia, presumably talking about Nick, says that Tripp feels that their family and Nick know each other, and "there's a comfort level." There certainly is, as it looks like Letitia's on her sixth Scotch of the afternoon. Patrick IV pipes up that he agrees one hundred percent, and his siblings make "big surprise, Golden Boy" noises. Actually, it's really just Brian, as Karen is on Patrick IV's side, saying Nick is "very virtuous." When Brian pipes up that Nick is in fact "fatuous," Juliet repeats the statement and giggles, and Jeremy, wearing a robe and glasses that separate in the middle, fuzzily asks whom they're talking about. That may seem a little over the top, but six espressos can launch you into a position from which you can have a hell of a crash. Freddy, Karen's PGA husband, starts to say something, and Brian shuts him up, although in doing so, he sticks out his hand imperiously, only to have Jeremy high-five it. Hee. Brian complains about Nick's "massive attitude of entitlement," and when Karen disagrees, he snaps, "Karen, you're drunk and in love with him, so shut the hell up." I hope priests can give themselves penance, because I think otherwise Brian's sessions in the confessional are both lengthy and awkward. Karen demurs, saying she's had a Scotch, but she uses the inflection you would to say "ascot." Also, nice that she denies being drunk but says nothing about being in love with Nick. Hee. Anyway, the sibs devolve into yelling, prompting Letitia to pick up an extremely large sort of blue-willow-looking vase and throw it on the floor. Yes, way to teach your children that making a scene won't get them anywhere. She does manage to silence them, and stomps out while telling them they make her sick. Also likely to make her sick is the drink she doesn't forget to take with her. [Although this probably sounds very similar to the scene you saw in the aired pilot, it was in fact entirely reshot, with the biggest difference being that Letitia didn't come off as 100% batshit. -- CB 2008]
