The Other End Of The Telescope

Sarah Jane puts her hands over her mouth and shakes her head; she and Rose begin to giggle. "Listen to us," says Rose. "It's like me and my mate Shireen. The only time we fell out was over a man, and...we're arguing over the Doctor." Sarah Jane relaxes and looks at Rose in a much friendlier manner. Rose reappraises Sarah Jane -- the Doctor is the anti-Groucho, because he only picks the best, ergo Sarah Jane Smith is awesome, or else you're indicting yourself -- "With you, did he do that thing where he'd explain something at like 90 mph, and you'd go 'What?' and he'd look at you like you'd just dribbled on your shirt?" All the time! They laugh about what a dick the Doctor is. Oh, what fun. "Does he still stroke bits of the TARDIS?" Sarah Jane asks. "Yeah! Yeah! He does! I'm like, 'Do you two wanna be alone?'" The Doctor walks in on Rose and Sarah Jane laughing hysterically; seeing him only makes them laugh harder. He is bemused, but starts talking about the task at hand; they're useless with mirth. Finally, he's just cross-eyed: "What!? Stop it!"

Finch joins the other Krillitanes his office, where they are busily looking like people. "Brothers, we must initiate the final phase. Get the children inside and seal the school. Our time has come, my brothers. Today we shall become gods." Blon had brothers too, and tried on skins. I think that Finch is like her even more than Cassandra was.

The children are at play in the yard, laughing and running around. When the bell goes off, they stop, and the PA ushers them to class "immediately," and summons the (human) staff to the staff room. Everybody automatically heads inside, except for Kenny, who doesn't eat the chips. Melissa -- who Wagner recruited for the top class yesterday -- pauses a moment and says how awesome it is that recess has finished early: "Isn't that fantastic?" Kenny waits as long as possible before heading inside.

Inside, Rose is shooing the kids away from the IT class: "This classroom's out of bounds, you've all gotta go to the South Hall. Off you go, South Hall!" The lo-tech approach. I like it: bat aliens and mind-control french fries aside, the most effective way of buying time is telling the kids there's a fake detour. The "look over there" approach to crime-fighting. I love it. Rose shuts the door and breathes.
