"Why?" asks Dr. Brown Shoes, still at the computer. He sounds like he's puzzled to hear himself asking it. Amy comes stumbling inside. "Keep him away from me!" Dr. Black Shoes comes in after her, but his attention is on his other self. They realize they both felt something at the same time, although Dr. Black Shoes felt it more strongly. He apologizes to Amy but she's not having it. He frets and wrings his hands, seeming very old and very young all at once, which I guess is exactly what he is. He's like your doddering old grandpa and your hot young boyfriend rolled into one kinda disturbing package. "It would appear I can connect to the flesh," he says. "You are flesh," Amy says, disgusted. He says he can feel what the flesh wants. "It's in pain, angry; it wants revenge," he says to Cleaves. Amy takes this as proof that he's not the Doctor and never will be. Dr. Brown Shoes listens to this exchange with an increasingly worried expression. Cleaves suggests Dr. Black Shoes sit apart from them. Brown Shoes protests, but everyone else now seems to be against his other self. Black Shoes goes without argument.
Oh, hey! Rory's still alive. He's wandering around when he hears Jen shouting for help. He follows the sound of her voice to the harness room and finds two Jens. Each one insists she's the real Jennifer Lucas. Rory goggles at them.
Back at the evac tower, they get a call from the army, saying the shuttle's overhead but they can't get close enough to rescue them. Cleaves rubs her temple. Dr. Black Shoes quietly scans her with the sonic screwdriver. Amy wants to go find Rory. "We can use the sonic to find him," Dr. Black Shoes says. "Humans and gangers give off slightly different signals; the sonic needs to tell the difference." Oh my God, then why didn't you try using the sonic ages ago? It's not this that Amy latches onto, but the fact that this means the other Doctor is different. Dr. Black Shoes wonders if Amy might be prejudiced. She insists she can tell the difference: "We've been through too much. You're my Doctor. End of." So, there.
