Rose smiles, pleased: "Best news I've heard all day!" Best lifetime. So right and so wrong. The ramp up, and the ramp down. The wilting hearth, born again. Jefferson lets off the safety on his gun, looking down at the gasping Toby: "He's infected. He brought that thing on board, you saw it." Toby's eyes go wide -- he's cornered, unaware. Rose gets right the hell in Jefferson's face: "Gonna start shooting your own people, now? Is that what you're gonna do? Is it?" If necessary, says Jefferson. Rose: "Well then, you'll have to shoot me 'if necessary,' so what's it gonna be?" Shoot her! Shoot them both! HE'S THE DEVIL! Jefferson pauses, and it's so awesome, because Rose is beautiful, and strong, and on her own. And she's right. Rose kneels next to Toby, looks down at his face. "Whatever it was, it's gone. It passed into the Ood. You saw it happen. He's clean." She needs desperately to believe this, not only in the moment but in the season: he can come back from it. Anybody can come back from divinity. Jefferson considers Toby, breathing heavy, frightened, and says, "Any sign of trouble, I'll shoot him." You'd think he was wrong. He moves away. Rose helps poor Toby to his feet; he can't remember anything, really, but what we already know: "It was so angry. It was...fury and rage. Death." He stares about, knowing that only Rose has the experience to deal. "It was him," says Toby. "It was the Devil." Rose hugs him, pulling Toby into her arms: "Come here." That's how you know she'll be okay.
