"It doesn't make sense," Rose thinky-faces. "We escaped, but there's a thousand ways it could've killed us. It could've ripped out the air, or I dunno, burnt us, or anything. But it let us go. Why? Unless it wanted us to escape." Toby Zed tells her to shut up. She stares at him, and he looks away, counting down: "Almost there. We'll be beyond the reach of the black hole in 40...39..." Plant your feet in the dirt of a foreign world and get a mortgage. Remember the world again, and remember him: Nine's ears, Ten's mouth. The suits and the smile and Barcelona. That's what you do. Jump.
"So, that's the trap. Or the test or the final judgment, I don't know. But if I kill you, I kill her." The Beast laughs, and then roars at him. "Except that implies -- in this big grand scheme of Gods and Devils -- that she's just a victim. But I've seen a lot of this universe, I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demigods and would-be gods. Out of all that, out of that whole pantheon, if I believe in one thing." God, just say it. "Just one thing." Really? We're going there? The Seventh Doctor went all James and Lily like this too, against the haemovores. Right around the time the wolf came calling. Be careful, Doctor. Please don't say it. "I believe in her." And he picks up the vase, and he asks for it. He lets the Devil out.
Gravity reaches for her. She's the feather, he's the cannonball. They fall together. The rocket shakes violently. "We've lost the funnel! Gravity collapse!" Meaning: "We can't escape. We're headed straight for the black hole!" The rocket turns around, back on the rollercoaster, spirals down into gravity.
The Doctor smashes the other vase. "This is your freedom! Free to die." You fucking idiot. He already had that. We all do. "You're going into that black hole and I'm riding with you." Everybody but you. The Beast breathes fire. You plant your feet in the impossible dirt and you remember her. The mascara and the pink, the laugh, the way she'd push her hair back when it was time to work harder. That's what you do when you're forever.
Rose watches the impossible planet, falling like an angel, falling like a cannonball: "The planet's moving. It's falling." She glances at Toby, in for a shock: He's all over Deviled out. "I am the rage," he says. In that voice. Rose calls out, smartly and not freaked: "It's Toby, Zach. Do something." But look at Toby Zed now: tiny, still cute, still scared. Virgin Toby, speaking fast, a Devil afraid. Even the Devil. "...And the bile and the ferocity!" O RLY? Because you look like a mind and body plummeting into nothing, in two separate pieces. "I am the Prince and the Fall and the darkness..." Danny wigs; Zach tells everybody to get it together with a quickness; the ship's not stable. He's a good captain. Toby breathes fire.
