MONDO EXTRAS
This Show's Lucky To Be Alive
Zone and Mag, with Iris and Dumbshow Dad in tow, bust into Topher's lab, and upon seeing the arrested-development nature of his stuff (he has a Whack-A-Mole game, no lie) conclude that this must have been the day-care center. Ha! Mag then asks Zone if he knows how Laura got imprinted, but he doesn't, noting that she might just have gotten too close to a boom box, which (a) makes all their technophobia a lot more understandable, and (b) lets us know that he wasn't just oozing testosterone when he blasted that radio to smithereens. After he gives Mag shit for having any actual feelings about Laura, the lights come on, and then Mag and Zone enter the imprinting room and stare at the chair with trepidation. Lynn and Griff join them and are no less wary of the chair, although after all the exertion they've been through lately I would have already been seated in the thing without regard for my safety. I'm aptly handled. Griff touches the panel next to the chair and it comes to life, prompting Zone to freak, but Griff assures him that there's no signal down there, and Lynn adds that all the fiber-optics have been cut, so there's no chance of a hard connection to the surface either. Griff quickly concludes that the chair is made for printing, and there's an extremely simple interface (somewhere, Topher's sputtering in his grave or asylum or whatever) that lets you control everything. He goes on that they've heard rumors about a cure, and if they load Dumbshow Dad into the chair, he might be able to tell them something useful. Zone's not convinced, but if it'll wipe that Cletus-like expression off Dumbshow Dad's face for a bit, I'm all for it, and the others see it my way and overrule Zone. Griff says that there's one set of memories in the bank, and he's just going to load one of those in and see what happens. It only takes a moment, and when Dumbshow Dad sits back up, he asks, "Did I fall asleep?" He doesn't seem fazed, however, that he fails to get the "For a little while" countersign, instead saying he was talking with a man. Griff asks what he was saying, and as Dumbshow Dad starts to repeat it...
