The Naked Time

At the Dollhouse, we get a closeup of a test tube containing a liquid that looks like fluorescent piss, which I'd imagine is a sight whoever did Robert Downey Jr.'s drug tests got pretty used to back in the day. The guy holding the liquid informs Adelle that it's one of only two existing vials of a "promising new memory drug," and the other one is missing. He goes on that he needs "an army" of Actives on this case, and Adelle subserviently replies that she's already rearranged the schedule. Topher comes in babbling about some mix-up involving an imprint that caused "Foxtrot" to speak Mandarin instead of Cantonese, and you have to wonder about the wisdom of giving heightened security clearance to a guy who never seems to be able to shut his damn trap. However, Topher looks like he's considering another use for his open mouth when he recognizes the guy as "Clive Ambrose," co-chairman of Rossum. "Third-richest man in the country, nominated for a Nobel Prize... I might throw up. That's a compliment!" If this is his reaction when there's no sexual interest, I can only imagine that any girl he takes out would do well to avoid the dinner date. Anyway, Topher forgets about his man-butterflies when he realizes that something bad must have happened, and Adelle urgently informs him that there's been "an incident at Fremont College." Ambrose, who was totally the Russian guy Nikolai Stanislofsky on Oz that Officer Claire killed on Ryan O'Reily's behalf via electrocution, elaborates that Owen is dead, and he took a "psychotropic modification" of one of their memory drugs currently in the R&D stage, which breaks down inhibitions in the hippocampus in order to awaken "sleeping" parts of the brain. Topher wisely chooses not to comment on the incredibly wormy can suggested by that concept, instead letting Ambrose go on that "Phase One" of the drug's effects is very similar to the reactions caused by recreational narcotics -- giddiness and light hallucinations.
