Ghost In the Machine

After some quick shots of the spa-like place, we move to Echo having her leg worked on by Amy Acker, who other than the facial scars she's sporting needs no introduction to Angel fans, although she's looking more human and a lot less blue than in her days as Illyria. Acker (Dr. Claire Saunders) speculates that something fell on it, and Echo simps that she doesn't remember, which is going to get old real fast, I feel obliged to warn you. After teasing certain groups of the audience with the promise of a girl-girl massage, Echo reiterates her lack of memory about what happened to her knee, but Claire expertly deflects this and promises they'll take care of her. Echo reaches a childlike hand out to Claire's face and, presumably referring to the scars, asks if anyone takes care of her, but Claire recoils from both the touch and the subject as she says she'll call for someone to work on Echo's knee. Instead of waiting, however, Echo steps out of the room and looks around the atrium. On the second floor, she sees an office from which florescent lights are flashing, and she goes to investigate...

...and once inside the anteroom, she hears a girl moaning, and not in the good way. She heads into the interior chamber, and sees the girl in the chair, only she's got numerous wires and needles penetrating her body in various spots, and she's shaking in apparent pain. Echo notes dumbly, "She's not asleep," and DDT tells the two flunkies in attendance to "keep mapping the tissue" before hustling Echo out of there. Back in the anteroom, he plasters on a fake smile and asks what she's doing there, but Echo is still focused on the pain the girl was enduring. DDT (his name's "Topher," by the way, not that I'll be calling him that) tells her that it's her first time, so they have to do more extensive work on her than normal in order to make her strong and happy. As he notes Claire having surreptitiously entered the room behind Echo, he concludes that soon Echo will have a new friend, Sierra, and this seems to please Echo, which is all the opening DDT needs to send her away with Claire. Echo turns back to tell DDT that something fell on her, and he cracks me up by replying "I bet it was something great!" before giving Claire a WTF face. Heh. We get another shot of Sierra's pained expression, and then some washed-out shots of two guys in a boxing ring...
