YOU GRADE IT
Like Christmas In… December?

Boyd is doing a security check, and he discovers that, starting three months earlier, "Victor"'s file was accessed repeatedly. Echo suggests that someone was making sure he was still on schedule, and when Boyd tries to see whom that someone is, he comes up with a Rossum server under a "defense-grade firewall." Echo takes her turn at the controls...

...while "Victor" gets led into a room that contains a nasty-looking apparatus. He warily asks if the setup is just for immunizations, but the leader merely tells him it'll be easier to explain once he's done what he's going to do. "You'll never be alone again." Ooh, a Borg element to this storyline? I like it. "Victor" puts his face into the chin rest, and then the leader takes a gigantic pneumatic needle and sends what's probably a chip into the back of "Victor"'s neck, and then, in an visually satisfying effect, the screen goes grey and retreats backward to settle in as one of many on a grid as "Victor" starts to hear the voices of all those connected to him, and he looks up in wonder as he realizes the futility of resistance.

Echo has come up with "Scytheon," which Boyd recognizes as Rossum's military contract wing. As Boyd sees the mysterious pictures of "Victor" from earlier coming up on the screen, Echo says they've got all his information, even his engagements. She goes on that he's been placed in a classified program code-named "Mind Whisper," which is certainly more subtle than "Operation Central Killface Command" or the like. She gives the location as a bunker on the California-Nevada border, and Boyd adds that they've recruited dozens of ex-Actives, and it's their Active architecture that allows their minds to be linked via "neural radio," and I like how the show has given unrelated story-driven reasons over the last few episodes to make all these tidbits not only make sense but also not seem forced or inorganic. We see Victor getting a remote flash as he and his team march in formation...

...and then Adelle is almost passed out but still is managing to hold a drink in her hand, and I hope for the sake of her profit margin that a board member of Johnnie Walker is a Dollhouse client. Boyd comes in and breaks the news about "Victor" and Rossum's plan, but Adelle is clearly in no mood, especially given what a rousing success it was the last time they tried to defy the mother ship. Boyd appeals to her, saying he's giving her a chance to help "Victor," but Adelle knows what's going on better than it seems: "It's what he wants. And isn't that why we're in business -- to give people what they want?" Boyd leaves in disgust, although that could partially be due to the fact that the air in Adelle's office currently has the toxicity of paint thinner, and as that computer on her desk looks reasonably expensive I hope Adelle thinks to turn her head before she vomits.
