Cut, as I indicated, to a sad-faced Madeline looking at a still photo of her standing over Hearn's corpse, and it's probably fair to say she was informed neither of his attack or his serial-raping ways. Cindy sits with her as Madeline laments the fact that last time she was at the Dollhouse, Ballard seemed so kind and gentle, prompting Cindy to reply that you can never tell what kind of monsters people are hiding inside. Okay, that one was pretty good. Madeline struggles to hold back her tears as she says that she'll always know that she killed someone, but Cindy assures her that it was the Dollhouse that did it, and that's why she's got to testify against them. The phone then rings, and when Cindy goes to answer it, the dramatic swell of music suggests the call might be regarding floral arrangements...
...but it's only Perrin, who tells her he's going to stay at "the hotel" and "go over the financials with Burt," and any thoughts of gay scenarios are quickly swept away by the reiteration of the white knight/beautiful damsel thing. Barf.
Topher has just perfected a gizmo he calls a disruptor, and after an obligatory Star Trek: TNG mention, he starts to explain what it does, but Adelle quickly tires of the technobabble, so he has an Asian Active, "Kilo" (played by Dollhouse writer and Jed Whedon's wife Maurissa Tancharoen), join them, whereupon he unceremoniously activates the disruptor, which, well, disrupts poor Kilo's brain, giving her headaches and a bloody nose before sending her to the floor in a dead faint. He goes on that while it won't harm normal people, it will knock out any Doll in a ten-foot radius -- but then, when he looks through the glass and sees a Doll tumbling down the stairs, he offers, "Make that a fifty-foot radius." Heh, nice sight gag. Ballard's like, great, I'm out of here, but Topher starts to croak out an objection, and Adelle clarifies that the device will work on Madeline as well, since her "Active architecture" is still in place. Ballard pissily asks, "No one really ever leaves here, do they?" You'll think differently when your security clearance to the WB backlot is revoked.
