Changing The Game

Later, Boyd comes to get Echo for a treatment, which worries her, since if Topher makes her someone else, she won't be able to help Madeline. Boyd, however, tells her not to concern herself, since she's being programmed to do just that...

...and then Echo's in the chair. Boyd notes to Adelle that Ballard won't be so happy about Echo being sent out without him, but she replies that Ballard's displeased with a great many things at the moment. She doesn't add that that's because it's a day that ends in "y", but Joss may have grown leery about recycling dialogue from his other works. She goes on that she needs Ballard focused on retrieving Madeline and Boyd to take point in Operations. "Echo will be fine. Any qualified interim handler will do." Not the first or last time for her to be wrong this episode, which she drives home by making a lame joke about how Echo will be doing "most of the handling on this one." I know you're under pressure, Adelle, but that was beneath you. Hell, that was practically beneath me.

Perrin's on the phone talking business, but quite soon after he takes a swig of what looks like Scotch, he starts to look woozy. His vision gets blurry and then goes dark...

...and when he comes to, a video camera-wielding Echo is giggling in his general direction. He seems to have misplaced his clothes during his nap, so I'm glad we have the commercials to digest the circumstances of this Faith-Wesley reunion.

When we return, a confused Perrin wraps a sheet around his naughty bits, and after Echo helpfully informs us that said bits are quite impressively-sized, she introduces herself as "Bree." Perrin takes a good long while to cotton on to the obvious fact that he was roofied, ridden, and recorded, although you'd think stories like that are traded in the Senatorial lounge even more readily than political favors. When he finally gets the idea, he grabs her camera, but she easily informs him that she's already sent the really juicy stuff off to her employers, and she only stuck around to give him a message: Back off. For such an obvious hooker, she's kind of a tease. She starts to leave, but after he grabs her, he realizes that she's a Doll. Echo: "Thanks! You're cute too." Heh. For once, Dushku isn't completely overacting or Faithing up this kind of role, which is nice, especially since Denisof's acting is strangely flat this scene. Perrin goes on that Rossum wouldn't risk hiring a call girl when they could get an Active to do the job, and says he's going to take her to his wife, which prompts a not-entirely-unamusing bit about how she normally charges extra for threesomes, but she just might throw this one in gratis. But I'd wait until you see all the players before committing.
