Okay, Matthew is at least heeding my wishes and confronting Lord Grantham head-on about the policy changes he thinks need to take place at Downton. He ignores Branson's obvious discomfort in using the words "bad management." The Indigno-Meter hops out of Carson's pocket and races up the stairs, but Lord Grantham is forced to curtail his explosion by the entrance of Jimmy James and Alfred, and he tells Matthew they'll discuss it later. Well, since his wife isn't talking to him, he might as well use his married-fight speak on Matthew. Carson then comes in and tells Lord Grantham he's got an urgent matter to discuss...
...which prompts Jimmy James to wonder downstairs what's up Carson's ass. Mrs. Patmore tells him never to mind -- as well she might -- before wondering what's up with Ivy's color, not realizing that she's wearing makeup. After Alfred asks how Daisy's day off was and she tells him it was lovely, Ivy asks Jimmy James what he'll be doing for his day off, and he smiles that he'll be going somewhere on his own, as usual. He then turns and almost runs smack into Thomas and there's the most deliciously awkward pause before Jimmy James continues on by; Mrs. Patmore then tells Ivy to give it a rest, as Jimmy James isn't interested. Ivy thinks someone as young as Jimmy James must be interested in someone, but Thomas tells her that someone isn't she and he'd be wise not to overplay this hand, given that O'Brien dealt it specifically for him. Mrs. Patmore then asks after Mr. Mason and Daisy tells her he was lovely as usual, but Mrs. Patmore notices the tone in her voice and asks what's up, so Daisy tells her about his offer. Mrs. Patmore notes how generous it is and Daisy confesses that Mr. Mason is rather generous and kind. Mrs. Patmore says nothing further, but it seems evident that she'd miss Daisy. What a long way we've all traveled since Season 1.
