Jordan brought her parents to meet Kelly in rehearsals. Her parents are frigging adorable. They're singing "Take My Breath Away." Jordan is such a teenager; she explains that when she sings, her mom stops everything and stares at her and it's weird. Aw, her mom is proud. But Jordan doesn't know who Bonnie Raitt is. Oh, honey. You can't be the kind of singer you want to be without knowing who Bonnie Raitt is. I hope Kelly gave her some homework, because girl.
Man, I want this to be good, but Jordan is off in the beginning. She's a little sharp and her breathing is weird, although she has a nice little riff at the end of the first verse. Kelly does a good job of letting Jordan's voice take the lead. Yeah, the whole thing is pretty sharp. I don't know if it's nerves but Jordan is usually better than this. Ouch, it's hurting me to listen to this. Kelly can't really do anything to fix it either. It's like Jordan has no breath or strength behind her notes when that's usually her forte. She may not have a lot of nuance, but she can belt. But not tonight.
Robin thought it was sexy but he thought the song needed a little more emotional connection from Jordan. I agree, surprisingly. Jennifer liked that Jordan gave it her own spin, and she could feel the country tinge, but Jennifer did note that it was a little pitchy. John loved the arrangement and the blend of voices, but he thought her nerves got the better of her in the beginning of the song. Well, she's in second place behind John.
Robin only has the one contestant, Olivia, left. I think Olivia would fare better if she had better bangs. Her bangs are not good. Anyway, she felt really good about her performance last week, regardless of the scores. This week, they are singing "Staying Alive." Get it? Because she's... oh, you get it.
You guys, I STRONGLY suspect that Robin chose this song for two reasons: he gets to sing in his falsetto (which is not that great) and he gets to wear the Travolta white suit. I think this song choice had nothing to do with Olivia. Also, Robin opens the song while the other celebrities usually let their partner start the song. During her verse, Olivia seems to be rapping more than singing. This was not a good song choice to show off her vocals, but see everything I said at the top of the paragraph. You can't hear Olivia over the backup singers and when you can hear her, she's pitchy. Bleh. I don't like it.
