Hey, it's a new show! And I should confess that I know nothing about it other than that aspiring singers are going to sing duets with established stars like Kelly Clarkson. I'm assuming it's a competition but I don't know anything like how many contestants there will be, how they will advance or be eliminated, or even if it will be enjoyable to watch. Let's find out together, shall we?
You guys, I may have accidentally tuned into So You Think You Can Dance. There are people dancing on stage with a ton of fog. Oh, there's Kelly Clarkson. And ew, Robin Thicke. And a lady I think might be in Sugarland or one of those country bands. And John Legend. And they are singing, "Let Me Entertain You." Okay, all right, I will. Stop yelling at me. Also, I just realized that I only know Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland because she's in an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba doing the Dancey-Dance. This is what I've been reduced to since becoming a stay-at-home mom of twin toddlers.
Once they finish singing, a guy from MTV (I told you, I'm old and out-of-touch. The last time I watched MTV was in the Carson Daly/TRL years, and even then it was only sporadically) whose name I'm not even going to try to spell. Okay, I looked it up and it's spelled Quddus. That seems like something from Harry Potter fan fiction.
So the four judges went out and tried to find amateur singers. Kelly Clarkson looked while she was on tour. Robin Thicke, and I'm going to quote this, "returned to his roots in the world of gospel." Um, isn't his dad Alan Thicke and his mom Gloria Loring? I think his roots are Canada, soap operas, and TV theme songs with a sprinkling of Kirk Cameron.
I didn't think they were going to show us the search because they were going through this whole clip package. Wait, they only get one contestant each? I feel like this show won't last long if they only have four contestants. Maybe I should wait until they explain how the competition works. Anyway, Jennifer said she was looking for diversity and someone who could sing multiple styles. She auditions multiple people but is most impressed by a dude named Brandon who sounds a little like Vince Gill to me. She brings him back and he brings his wife and five-month-old baby. And his wife is already pregnant again. WHOA. Slow down, man without a career. Anyway, Jennifer sings with Brandon and it sounds great, but she's not a hundred percent, so she decided to wait until after auditioning people in New York as well.
