Robin and Olivia are singing "Need You Now," which is actually a good song choice for her voice. I can't believe Robin chose something that will showcase the singer instead of himself. The other advantage of this song is that the original has two singers, so it makes sense as a duet. Olivia is wearing epaulets, so I'm distracted by that for a while, but then I notice that she does a good job with the first verse, but Robin is super pitchy when he comes in and it does not sound good. At all. Robin! You're ruining this. Also, their phrasing sucks. They sing, "I need (breath) you now." Why take a breath in the middle of the line like that? It sounds awful. I do not like this performance at all, although I will say that Olivia performs the song well.

John likes that two R&B singers did a country song. Kelly thought Olivia was pretty pitchy which might have been due to nerves, but she loves Olivia's ton and the song choice. Jennifer loves Olivia's dress (yuck) and the song choice, but she also heard the pitchiness. I really thought it was Robin. Although maybe Robin was trying to adjust and harmonize with her despite her being off on the notes.

Kelly and Jason practice "Mercy" by Duffy, and Kelly works with him on hitting the high notes without being nasal. Thank you, Kelly! That is my issue with him. Will he remember to avoid the nasally sound during his actual performance? Wow. The difference in Jason's performance from the previous weeks is unbelievable. First of all, he's sexy. I never got that from him before, but he's got this swagger that he just didn't have before. And he sounds great! And he's got confidence! I had pretty much written him off, but now I think he's a contender. I mean, this was a J Rome-level performance. Not to mention, he didn't get too nasally and he hit all the notes.

Jennifer says that she loved it, and if teenaged girls are voting, it's all over. Robin says he couldn't take his eyes off Kelly and says nothing about Jason's singing. John thought Jason had a lot of fun but his dancing wasn't completely natural. The audience boos. I don't think so. I thought he looked good. Especially in the beginning.
