The last performer is Bridget, and she's singing "Heard It Through the Grapevine," Gladys Knight style. Last week, Aretha, this week, Gladys. She's not taking it easy on herself, is she? Every time I watch John sing alone, I don't want it to be a duet. I guess that means I should start listening to more John Legend. He opens by singing the first verse Marvin Gaye-style, then Bridget comes out and sings it Gladys-style. She and John play off each other very well, and seem to be having fun with it. And she can move. I hope next week (assuming she makes it through) that she sings something younger, though. Like I would love to see HER take on a Beyonce song. I love when she sings to John; she looks legit pissed that she heard rumors that he's cheating on her. Loved it.
Robin still can't be bothered to sit up like an adult and he talks about how it's an awesome Marvin Gaye song, when Bridget didn't sing the Marvin Gaye version, so shut up Robin. Jennifer liked Bridget's attitude and growls, but thought the low part was a little muddy. Kelly also thought her opening was shaky but she loved how comfortable Bridget looked on stage. So where does Bridget rank? She's smack dab in the middle, so she's safe.
That means that Jason and Alexis have to face off to see who goes home. Ugh. They are not the two worst singers. I can't believe Olivia isn't in the bottom two.
So now those two have to sing a capella. Jason is up first. He sings "Me and Mrs. Jones." His voice sounds good as far as pitch but he's doing this weird thing like he's putting on a fake voice at times. I don't know if he's imitating someone? It just sounds different from his usual tone. And he also barely looks at the audience. Alexis is singing "Natural Woman." She's nervous. She looks like she's shaking. She's also singing with her head, moving it all over the place to shit the different notes, and that makes her a little pitchy. Hmm. I'd rather see Jason continue in the competition but Alexis gave a better performance in that I wanted to watch her sing.
Kelly says that they were both a little pitchy because they're nervous, but she doesn't think Jason deserves to be in the bottom two. Robin has nothing useful to say other than urging them both to never give up, no matter what happens. John says that they both love music. Thanks, John. That was also not useful. Jennifer says that it takes tenacity to make it in this business, and that their performances just now should have been what they did earlier. Kelly points out that if they get eliminated tonight, it just means that their duet wasn't the best, and they don't want to be professional duet-singers anyway.
