Emmy Awards 2009: Live Blog

8:30 - Dexter commercial. Sometimes, I still can't believe that's a real show.

8:32 - Uh-oh. NPH is bitter. He's decided to speed up the show a little bit, and brusquely introduces Justin Timberlake. For Lead Actress in a Comedy, the nominees are Christina Applegate, Toni Collette, Tina Fey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Mary-Louise Parker, Sarah Silverman (wearing a mustache). She plays it totally straight, looking all hopeful, and everyone is dying. Toni Collette wins, and I totally want to know if Hodgeman is lying about her being in a band with her husband. Man, it's been so long since I heard her accent. Muriel's Wedding is my fave, and Japanese Story is pretty good, too.

8:38 - NPH congratulates Toni, and congratulates Jon Cryer. They find him in the pressroom, and he rubs it in NPH's face a little bit.

8:40 - Blake Lively, her breasts and Leighton Meester tell us who was nominated for Guest Actor and Actress in a Comedy, even though they've already received their awards, at the Technical Emmys. Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake, both winning for SNL, come out to thank Lorne Michaels, and JT does a brief Kanye impersonation. (Too soon? Never. Never too soon.) So... if you're gonna let them speak, why not just do this category here instead? I mean, for God's sake, Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake were nominated in the categories! Along with eight other guest-star-worthy actors! Food for thought. Anyway, then the Gossip Gals get to give an actual award, for director of a comedy series, and after a montage of the nominees saying what's funny about getting nominated, the awesomely named Jeff Blitz takes it for The Office episode "Stress Relief."

8:48 - I love -- love -- that NPH is giving the most obscure TV credits for each presenter. After-school special star Rob Lowe reminds us he passed up Grey's Anatomy to do a short-lived comedy called Dr. Vegas, and announces the nominees for Lead Actor in a Comedy. Alec Baldwin, Steve Carell, Jim Parsons, Tony Shalhoub, Jemaine Clement and Charlie Sheen. Here's where we see if the academy took Jon Cryer's advice. But, no, it's Alec Baldwin again, who also thanks Lorne Michaels. Apparently, Lorne Michaels is good people. [Or Dr. Evil... depending on who you ask. -- Angel]

8:52 - One of Family Guy's Emmy videos, the one where Stewie brutalizes Brian. Gruesome and unnecessary. Like Family Guy! I kid. But really, I don't like the show.
