MONDO EXTRAS
Emmys Live Blog: Now With More Neil Patrick Harris
10:19 - LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell come out, did you know they only have one C and two L's in their name? NPH did. The duo present supporting actor in a drama, and Chris O'Donnell fails to make a funny joke about NCIS.
10:20 - Ben Linus! Awesome. He takes it very seriously and doesn't make a Kanye joke. Instead he impresses with some Hawaiian. Cool.
10:22 - Cherry Jones won for 24? What? Just because she's president doesn't mean she was great. There were far better people on that show this season, and they go by the name Annie Werschling.
10:23 - She loves her co-stars and promises that the Emmy will be on the craft service table tomorrow. That's actually kind of cool.
10:24 - Dead people montage - with Sarah McLachlan singing "I Will Remember You." Grab the tissues.
10:25 - Bea. Patrick. Paul Newman. King of Pop. Farrah. Sniff.
10:26 - Glad they gave the final spot to Walter Cronkite. Classy.
10:31 - This Nip/Tuck commercial of them sewing up a woman like a corset is incredible. Almost makes me feel bad that I only watch it sporadically. Almost.
10:33 - Stephen Moyer and David Boreanaz presenting together? Awesome. Two cool vampires. They are rehashing the guest actor/actress awards that were given out last week. They don't even get to give out an award though. Sucks.
10:34 - Ellen Burstyn and Michael J. Fox won and they are giving out the drama directing award. They ask the directors to give tips. The guy from Damages has the best simple advice: "Cast Glenn Close." ER's Rod Holcomb says the key is to tell people to go to hell without really upsetting them and making them think it is a good idea. This is the guy who wins. Clearly.
10:36 - They move on to the writing award, and the segments about how hard it is to write drama. Carlton Cuse punches Damon Lindelof out. That was worth sitting through all these segments. Mad Men won for "Meditations in an Emergency." Matthew Weiner says that writing is not at all glamorous and that he works out of a Starbucks. I'm sure he could do better than that now.
10:39 - Simon Baker (swoon!) is giving out the award for Best Actor. The Sally Field clip is very teary. That seems like a winner.
10:41 - Nope. I was wrong. Again. Par for the course tonight. At this rate, Family Guy is going to win. Anyway, Glenn Close gets a shiny trophy and thanks her "category sisters." Some of them look happier than others. She thanks her cast and everyone's "beautiful Rose" and Rose Byrne seems suitably confused.
