Elizabeth fidgets nervously and leaps to her feet when Robert "Rocket" Romano and her lawyer, Matt Craven, walk in. Romano figures that she didn't get his message, and tells her that the meeting was cancelled, and that they took a conference call instead, and "agreed on a settlement figure." Elizabeth asks whether that means they've "accepted guilt," and Romano tells her that it means "the hospital's gonna take it in the shorts to the tune of $1.5 million." Elizabeth sinks into a chair (as Alex Kingston carefully holds her jacket out to conceal the fact that her suit doesn't really fit her) and asks whether the hospital's insurance will cover it. Romano complains about rising premiums, and Matt Craven says that it could be worse. Romano barks at him not to put a good face on it, since Elizabeth's getting away without paying anything. Matt Craven ignores Romano, basically, and tells Elizabeth, "There was a general recall on the endoscopic curettes that you used." Elizabeth considers, and then says that she doesn't remember having any trouble with the curette. Romano repeats that there was a recall, regardless. Matt Craven adds that they also signed a confidentiality agreement about the details of the suit, so she can't talk to anyone about it. Elizabeth insists that "there was nothing faulty with the equipment"; Matt Craven informs her, "Apparently there was, and the manufacturer has deeper pockets." Elizabeth, gobsmacked, nervously laughs that "that's wrong." Matt Craven tells her to "look at it as a gift." Elizabeth agrees, and starts raising the roof, squealing, "Go Lizzie! It's your birthday!" But, not really. Romano adds, "We pay out [sic] the nose, and you get a little ding at the National Data Bank. How lucky is that?" Matt Craven temples his fingers and silently judges her. Elizabeth looks stricken.
