Luka decides that this is the time to say something helpful. "Abby's been sleeping on my couch," he offers pointlessly. Abby, shot from the side, is clearly biting the insides of her cheeks as Carter leans around her to glare at Luka. He's pale. He went from two women to zero in less than one second. Susan catches Carter's shock and gives him a knowing scowl. Abby shakes her head, laughing under her breath, and chokes out that she's crashing there until she can find a new apartment. Carter eats his own lip. Susan snipes that Carter's probably more upset about this turn of events than he is about her nightlong Mark marathon. "No, I'm not," he denies lamely. Long shot of them, so that we're reminded that Abby's positioned in between Carter and Susan. In between. Carter and Susan. Are you with me? Are you? Don't make me use that "a" word that people hate so much. That damn vile word. Abby confusedly watches Carter and Susan not make eye contact. "Carter's still stuck on you," Susan snips. This propels Carter straight out of his seat, eager to change the subject, and makes Susan stalk over to the window to stare outside, bummed.
Carter swipes a section of Luka's newspaper and small-talks, "How about them Bears, huh?" Luka blankly blinks and then explains he doesn't watch American football. Carter plops down in a snit and insists that they need to beef up their defense, like, congratulations on knowing some sports words, dear. Luka prefers basketball, and says they can discuss the Bulls. "The Bulls stink," Carter snaps. This from the guy who made fun of Susan for not being a Bulls fan.
