Jack gets off the phone with Allison and walks up to Edison's barn. Edison has created some kind of transmitter that allows them to talk to Martha, although he can't guarantee that Martha will listen. Jack suggests telling Martha not to start World War III and Edison talks to his rebellious drone like a clumsy and clueless dad, warning her that there will be consequences for her actions and she has to earn respect, not take it. Zoe takes the microphone away from Edison to talk to Martha in language she can understand. She says that she knows it sucks having someone control everything you do, but running away sucks even more. The best thing to do is take a walk to let off some steam and remember that parents only do what they do because they care. Except for Mena, who is one of those overbearing mothers who pressures her daughter to be the best and accomplish so much by tinkering with her systems. "And don't start World War III!" Jack begs.
In the sky, Martha and her drone friends are heading for the fighters, which are requesting permission to fire as Martha takes aim herself. Zoe begs Martha to listen to her, but Martha has to wait until the very last second for dramatic effect. Also, teens love playing chicken. Just watch Rebel Without a Cause. Just as they're all about to collide with each other, Martha leads the drones away. Crisis averted. The drones return to Edison's barn.
Over at GD, Eva is pissed at having her direct orders violated. Jack, Stark, and Allison smile in her face and brag that they were right. "You were lucky," Eva says. Jack points out that according to Eva's graph, they're lucky a lot. Eva says it looks to her like the lunatics are running the asylum. Jack says he used to think that, but it turns out that they aren't all lunatics. Or maybe they are all lunatics, but they're geniuses, too. Jack still doesn't seem too sure. Allison says that GD is able to create amazing things like Martha, while Jack points out that an amazing invention like that would have been destroyed under Eva's orders. Eva says if they hadn't gotten through to Martha, things could have been really bad, to which Jack says you have to risk a lot to get a lot, which he probably read in Eva's book. The part that wasn't charred by Martha's deathray, that is. And by the way, when it comes to things that are armed with deathrays, you're probably best off risking absolutely nothing.
Allison asks what happens now. Eva says Stark will resume his Director of Research post on a temporary basis. But Stark refuses to work at GD without Allison. Eva says she has no intention of leaving Allison out of this, since Stark's people skills suck. Allison will be the new Director of Operations. This makes them joint heads of GD, like a CEO and COO, as Eva puts it in business terms. Allison asks who that leaves as the Chairman. Well, who do you think, Allison? They're not going to blow a guest spot from someone like Frances Fisher on just one episode. "For the time being, that would be me," she says.
