Carter and Tess have made it out of S5 and into Drechmeyer's lab. Tess fools around with the inner workings of the re-entry pad and exposits that once she turns it on, it'll send vibrations to the P-brane that Drechmeyer will then be able to detect and possibly communicate with them through. Except that Drechmeyer will think they're his mother, who is actually him in drag, and that'll just get weird. But still, it's better than nothing. This also means that all the activity Drechmeyer picked up in the last three days was probably Johnson trying to get back to the third dimension. With that, Tess closes the re-entry pad and gets ready to test her theory out. Carter worries that it'll do to her what it did to Johnson, but she says he had it turned up much higher. So she'll only go flying a little bit across the room and get a smaller burn, I suppose. With that, she turns the pad on and stands on it. Her teeth tingle, but it's not enough to activate Drechmeyer's TIRD detector. Carter thinks it might help if he stands on the pad as well. He does and they call out for Drechmeyer. Sure enough, the TIRD detector starts acting up. Drechmeyer grabs it and starts walking around the lab. Carter urges him to turn on the ghost whisperer machine that will allow them to communicate with him, but since that machine isn't turned on yet, such communication is not possible. It's a vicious circle. Instead, Drechmeyer sticks his hand in Carter's chest. "I can feel you, Mother!" he says. This is not the communication Carter had in mind, but it still works. Drechmeyer turns the ghost whisperer on and asks the spirits to give him a sign. "We're here!" Carter and Tess cry out, which causes the ghost whisperer antenna to light up. Drechmeyer is so happy that he runs out of the lab yelling "she's alive!" which doesn't help Tessa and Carter at all. You know, underneath it all, this is a really sad story about a man who can't come to terms with the loss of a parent. But I guess we're supposed to think it's funny.

Since Carter isn't around to call multiple times with stupid requests, Allison is free to check out Drechmeyer's claims of initiating contact with his mother. Curtis comes along for the ride. Drechmeyer says he's done some adjustments to a device he intends to use to bring his mother back into the living world, and now it's much more powerful. Curtis takes issue with this, most likely because it's horrifically unsafe, as is everything else at GD. Over in the fifth dimension, Tess is optimistic that Drechmeyer's electromagnet thing will, in fact, work and send them back to the third dimension. Johnson, looking a bit pale but much more conscious than the last time we saw him, comes running in and tells Tess that she could kill them all if she isn't careful. "Hello!" Tess laughs. Um, Tess? When someone comes running in saying you're doing something that could kill everyone, the appropriate reaction is not a friendly greeting, but perhaps something more along the lines of stopping whatever it is you're doing that could prove fatal. Then you can say hello. Johnson says he hasn't quite perfected the re-entry pad, so tinkering around with it is a terrible idea, as proven by what happened to him the last time he tried. Johnson blames Drechmeyer's machine for interfering with his oscillations or some other scientific nonsense. "If he turns it on again... " is all Johnson has a chance to say before Drechmeyer turns it on. Carter and Tess just stand on the pad stupidly, forcing Johnson to have to physically shove them off the pad. Meanwhile, Drechmeyer's machine erupts in a shower of sparks and smoke and does nothing. When the show's over, Allison angrily tells Drechmeyer that he is done at GD. Frying a multi-million dollar electromagnet is grounds for dismissal. "There is no one on the other side!" Allison declares. Curtis has the decency to look devastated for her ex-husband.
