Carter tries to convince Jo to go to Café Diem with him for Drechmeyer's ghost proof session. She's the smartest person in town for refusing, and so is rewarded for her good decision-making by being told to find any information she can about Drechmeyer. [Find any information she can about this top-secret government employee? Shouldn't they have, I dunno, files on him? Maybe a background check? - Z]
Allison, Vince, Zoe, Drechmeyer, Fargo and Lexi are holding hands and sitting around Drechmeyer's science version of a crystal ball in something that very much resembles a séance. Why is Lexi there? She wasn't even at Café Diem when all that stuff happened. Figures that she'd never miss a séance. Drechmeyer asks the spirits to show themselves, at which point Carter loudly enters the restaurant and interrupts everything. He realizes this and whispers a sincere but too late "sorry." He takes a seat in the circle and calls the machine in the middle a "giant TIRD grabber." Hee. Hee hee hee. "Ghost whisperer," Drechmeyer says, as if that clarifies anything. The séance begins again, and Drechmeyer says that the ghost whisperer can detect thermal energy, which he believes precedes a ghost visitation. And with that, a bunch of swirly green stuff appears in between the two antenna-like things on the TIRD grabber.
Back at the Sheriff's office, Jo has found some information on Drechmeyer: his mother is Madame Cornelia Drechmeyer, and there's even a picture of her. I'm 99% sure it's the actor who plays Drechmeyer dressed in drag. Madame Drechmeyer was a medium who claimed to be able to contact spirits. Jo scoffs at this, and the papers on her desk move themselves, followed by her coffee cup, which proves to be clumsy as it slides right off the desk and crashes on the floor. The expression on Jo's face as she watches this happen is pretty awesome. She looks around for Carter, hoping that this is all an elaborate joke because Madame Drechmeyer does not look like the type to stop at just paper cuts and broken mugs.
At the séance, Drechmeyer urges the spirit to come forward. The TIRD grabber flickers again, and then there's a loud blast of noise. But it's just Carter's cell phone. Everyone is annoyed at him. Heh. He apologizes and answers the phone. It's Jo, and she needs him to come back to the station right away. In the background, we hear various things breaking.
Apparently, Drechmeyer just couldn't get enough of rude Carter, so he followed him to the station. They find Jo hiding under her desk, and she urges them to do the same as something flies across the room and nearly beheads them. It's looking pretty bad, which makes me wonder why Jo would call Carter back there in the first place. It's dangerous! Carter decides that the jail cell is safer from flying objects that being under the desk, which it clearly is not. Small objects can still go through the bars and hit them. He ushers Jo into the cell with him. She's happy to comply after nearly being gored by a coat rack. Drechmeyer is too happy to see the proof of his theories than protect himself, so Carter has to waste time grabbing him and pushing him into the cell. He runs in himself after nearly being crushed by an oncoming desk. I guess it was a better idea to hide in the cell than under one of those desks after all. I didn't realize that they could move, too.
