Edna's (but not Irv's, wah!) House. Patch rolls in with Lily in a stroller, and Edna asks what he's doing there. Patch says he's been riding around for half an hour trying to get Lily to sleep, and it worked with Amy when she was little, too. Oh, he's so hooked. I'd like to mention here that Patch is wearing his trademark argyle sweater over a plaid button-up. As always, this kind of continuity is cheesy, but awesome. He shows Edna all the cool new things they've invented since his kids were little, like bouncy chairs and non-toxic books and toys, and he's particularly in love with the bottle warmer. Edna, who appears to be packing a bag with clothes, asks how the meeting with the lawyer went. Patch says they're officially Lily's guardians, and if the authorities aren't able to find Cathy within ninety days...he and Rose have a good chance of being awarded permanent custody. Well, isn't that convenient? Edna looks concerned, and tells him Cathy could come back. Patch says he's aware of that. "But you try not getting attached to this little angel!" Damn. Patch finally notices what Edna's doing, and tells her it seems like an awful lot of packing for a short vacation. Edna reveals that she's not going on a vacation -- she's moving to Africa to shack up with Rinda. Patch is outraged. "You can't move to AFRICA!" Edna's all, "Why not? There's a shortage of nurses there, I've got the field experience, why not use it? The pay's not too shabby either." Patch says he knows she's grieving, but this is insane. Edna says it makes perfect sense, since Irv's gone and Bright and Amy are all grown up, not to mention the fact that she doesn't have a job anymore. Patch tells her to come back to work for him and Treat, a more ridiculous idea than moving to Africa. Edna says they've had their run, and she figures Rinda deserves equal time. Patch argues that this is just the grief talking. Edna: "Oh, grief. I've never been much of a mourner. And I'm moving on to Phase 3. Harper would have wanted it that way." She busies herself with Lily, who's woken up adorably, and Patch can't do much but stand there and look at his crazy mama and his almost-baby. Commercials.
