Abbott/Brown Office. Patch knocks on Treat's door and asks if he can come in. Treat: "I don't know. Are you gonna hit me?" Hee. Patch apologizes for his careless words. Treat says what he said was true -- maybe not all of it, but the majority. He tells Patch that he's strongly considering a job offer in Chicago, adding that he'd transfer the practice and their lease over to Patch. Patch is like, "Whoa, wait. You can't leave." Treat says he misses being a surgeon; he's good at it, and sometimes it's the only thing in his life that makes sense. "I gave it up, and I'm just as alone as I was when Julia died." Patch demands that Treat forget everything he said. "In fact, forget everything you've heard issue from my mouth in the last three years." Aw. Treat can't forget his track record, though. "I've ruined your life a dozen times over; lost Colin; shattered the Harts; destroyed my relationship with my son; blinded a reverend; drove your sister back to Africa; had an affair with a stroke victim's wife..." ["I'd forgotten all about Rinda until he mentioned her." -- Sars] Patch doesn't care about any of this; he wants Treat to be absolutely sure. Treat says there's one more person he needs to talk to, but yes, he's sure. Patch asks if there's anything he can do. Treat nods. "Let it go." They look at one another so pitifully it just about puts me over the edge. Luckily, I have an excellent waiter. Commercials.
