MONDO EXTRAS
Beauty and the Beast: Pilot Review
She announces herself and claims to have a warrant (liar!) and then goes up the stairs and through the weird fencing to see his whole lab, which also includes a giant punching bag. She calls out for New Math, but Vincent calls out from the shadows that he's teaching class. So she pulls her gun (which looks white or silver with some wood embellishments?) and demands to see the shadowy voice, and the HORRIBLE LOOKING BEAST (or, you know, the handsome guy with the teeny tiny scar across his cheek) comes out. She astutely puts together that he's Vincent Keller. She wants to know why his prints were at the crime scene and he says he tried to help her, because Ashley had been poisoned.
Just then Evan calls to tell her that he's confirmed the cause of death is nicotine poisoning. Vincent says he knew this because of his highly tuned sense of smell. He keeps reiterating that he didn't do it. She brings up the hair from the old murder case, and then spots the clipping from the newspaper. And then Tess shows up looking for Cat. How easy it is to get around New York City! Vincent says that no one can know he's alive, and so Cat rushes Tess out of the place to keep him safe.
Ugly stock footage of the city runs before we see Cat in a very nice silk blouse trying to contact a detective Hernandez about a case from nine years prior. She gets no info. So off she goes to help Tess give an update on the case to their boss. While Tess rambles about nicotine, and boss man demands to know how Keller plays into all this, Cat realizes that the fashion magazine would be the perfect place to lay your hand on some fancy chemical poisons.
Off to what looks like a hair salon, but is actually the beauty editor's locked closet, where she lends samples if you are nice to her and if you sign them out. The bitchy beauty editor brushes them off, even though she got the promotion after Ashley diad. Bitch moved in before Ashley's body was even cold. Tess and Cat go through all of Ashley's belongings to discover a box with two pregnancy tests missing. They speculate that she was cheating on her husband, or something of that ilk.
Cat gets a call from an agent of some sort who offers to help with the contaminated DNA sample she called about earlier, and she agrees to meet him on a subway platform at Canal Street because he's just so busy and can't meet above ground. That's shady as hell. What kind of detective is she? As she hands over the sample, her spidey sense tingles and she's attacked by the agent and a homeless man and is able to fend them off quite easily despite her diminutive size. There's a woman looking on, who seems to ignore her, but they both make a play for Cat's gun and then start fighting while miraculously staying off the track and the third rail. Eventually the random woman throws her into the tracks, and her vision goes all blurry as she hears a roar and then the sound of the two agents being eviscerated and then deposited on the track next to her. She sees Vincent, briefly, and he kicks her gun to her and then runs off down the tracks... and she follows him. She knows where he lives, so why would she do something so stupid? She ends up nearly getting hit by a train, until he rescues her by pushing her up against a wall.
