Early asks Simon if River sleeps with any of the other crewmembers. Simon insists that she doesn't. He's the one sleeping with half the guys, not River. Okay, he doesn't say that part. Early suggests that River could be sleeping around without Simon knowing. Simon shirtlessly declares this all insane and says he's not going to help Early find his sister. Early kneels down to Simon's level and shows him his gun (no, not like that) and tells him that he likes the weight of it. Simon says he thought the plan wasn't to kill him. Early non-sequiturs that the gun's form is functional. Okay, then. He says the plan is to get River. If River's not there, then the plan is like her room. Uh. Yeah. I guess he's threatening Simon with…something. My own guess is that he's, in a roundabout fashion, telling Simon that if the plan doesn't work out, then there's no reason for him to not kill Simon. Early insists that Simon will help him find River. Simon insists that his last act isn't going to be betraying his sister. Early points out that Simon will help Early, because that gives him the opportunity to gain the upper hand against him. Whereas, if he doesn't help, Early will shoot him, and go do nasty, nasty things to Kaylee, tied up in the engine room. "She will die weeping," he promises. Simon shirtlessly declares that Early is out of his mind. You're just getting that? Early responds, "That's between me and my mind."
