We switch to film instead of Jason-cam. Daphne is lit from below, so we know it's a scary scene. As Daphne sweats and drools (no, I'm not kidding) a black oil-like substance starts to ooze into the crib. Daphne drops the teddy bear she was holding into the goo. Suddenly a hand reaches up out of the goo, and Daphne screams. Okay, that was a little bit scary. If only they didn't broadcast "something scary is about to happen" with the music and the lighting, it would have been even scarier. Ted rushes into the room to find Daphne catatonic in the corner. The crib is perfectly clean. Derek looks like a deer caught in the headlights. Again.
Beach. Chloe is sitting in a chair, when her cell phone rings. It's Derek. He asks if she's busy, and she says she's "putting together [her] paper for New York," where there is a "psych conference." Did we know she was a psychologist or some sort? Did I miss that last week? Derek wants help, and she's too busy. Derek tells her about Daphne and the demon. Hey, that would be a good title for the show that replaces this one when it gets cancelled -- Daphne and the Demon. Chloe laughs it off, like ha ha, demons are funny. Derek says he thinks they might both be "mentally ill" and he doesn't know "who else to call" because he's "worried they're going to hurt the baby." I don't know -- Social Services? A mental health office?
Playing the baby card must have worked on Chloe, because she is suddenly talking to Daphne at her apartment. In the background, Ted asks Derek if Chloe is a "psychic or something." Derek hedges, but finally reveals that Chloe is "a shrink." Ted gets upset and says that they're not crazy, and his "mother died in a mental home." You know, mental illness is often hereditary there, Teddy. Jason informs Ted that they are "the good guys," and Chloe is there "to calm things down." Ted says that Derek and Jason have to stay there all night and record what happens to see that they are not crazy.
Weird cut to a new scene of Derek and Chloe walking out. Chloe is saying that "expectant mothers are a hormone factory," and sometimes their "maternal instinct gets mutated." Derek asks about Ted, and Chloe says that it could be a "shared delusion." She's going to call Social Services (which Derek could have done himself yesterday), but it might take them a while to intervene. She suggests that Derek and Jason stay with them. Chloe says Ted and Daphne might "try to prove their delusion by doing something dangerous," and she makes Derek promise to call the professionals if things start "going south." Chloe morphed from young Connie Selleca into Charlotte from Sex and the City in this scene. The resemblance was striking. That girl is like a chameleon.
