Walternate reminds her that this morning she asked how he could be willing to let his son die to heal their world: "But you understand sacrifice better than anyone, Olivia. You were willing to leave your son behind, to risk your life for what you perceived to be the greater good. We're more alike than you think."

If Fauxlivia hates to be compared to her ersatz father-in-law, she doesn't show it, but she says she doesn't understand how killing billions of people could possibly be in the interest of the greater good. That's because she still has the luxury of her ideals, while he has to be pragmatic.

Anyhoo, she's put him in a difficult position, he says, although he seems to be handling it all right. He tells her that anyone else would be rotting away in a stockade for treason, but since she's the mother of his grandson, she'll merely stay there for her own good until this is over.

Then he turns out the light and walks away, because being the mother of his grandson doesn't earn her any reading privileges.
