The front door to the Generic house is open, and Sam walks in. "Hello?" she calls. She sees Mrs. Generic lying on the couch, and tries to talk to her. "Is Conrad around?" Sam asks. Mrs. Generic is way unconscious; Sam comes closer, and sees a syringe and a vial of drugs on the end table. "Mrs. [Generic]!" Sam says, shaking her, and she notices that Mrs. Generic's arm is covered in track marks. Sam goes to leave, but changes her mind and runs upstairs. She goes into Conrad's room, where the walls are covered with handwriting: "I promise to obey I promise to obey I promise to obey I promise to obey..." Ooh, Hildy on Trading Spaces did a mental-illness theme room! I love it! Conrad's lying in bed with the covers up to his chin. "Sam! What are you doing here?" he says. "You shouldn't be here!" They hear someone coming up the stairs. Conrad's all, "Oh God, hide! Quick! Now!" and Sam gets under the bed. (They painted it industrial gray! For that old-school hospital look!) Mr. Generic comes in. "How are you feeling, son?" He's telling Conrad that he wishes things didn't have to be this way and that he could trust him, and from under the bed Sam notices that Conrad is strapped down. ("Where did you get that idea, Hildy?" "From the bed harness in Mommie Dearest, Paige. Very classic.") Conrad's pleading with him that he's been trustworthy. Mr. Generic steps closer to the bed. Sam watches Mr. Generic's feet, and then suddenly he peers under. "Hello, Sam! Why don't you come out from there?" "No, thank you," whispers Sam. "I. Wasn't. Asking," says Mr. Generic, and grabs Sam. Sam screams and screams and then there's a commercial.
Mr. Generic has taped up Sam's mouth and drags her downstairs while she struggles to get away. "In my house, children do as they're told," he declares. He takes her outside.
Meanwhile, at the Dolans', Zane has figured out that Sam isn't upstairs, and realizes that she must have gone across the street.
And Mike is working at the Gazette office when Anomalous Black Guy comes up and hands him a fax of the article on Mr. Levy's disappearance; there's a big picture of Mr. Levy who looks like...Mr. Generic! Mr. Generic is really Mr. Levy! It's the Holy Shit! moment of the episode. "Call the sheriff!" says Mike. He tries calling home, but nobody answers.
