Chuck kisses Rachel in the limo, but gives up pretty quickly. She complains that he said he was better, but he says in essence that Serena was right: "I am. Just not for you." She falls back against the seat and remembers how easy it was overcoming her own questionable heterosexuality in order to constantly make out with Eva Pigford, and why can't he just do that.
Outside the DUMBO loft, it's finally getting cooler. Dan asks if Vanessa's okay, and she says she made the right choice. Dan tries to be interested, but his mind is blown by the whole "Nate Archibald is once again a gigolo" concept. V slugs him and reminds him this is a secret. "Who would I tell? Who would I tell except everyone I've ever met?" Classy to the end. Vanessa makes a hilarious face, and he says he won't tell. "But why'd you tell him to stay with that woman?" he asks, as though entirely for our benefit: "I thought you, you know, I thought you liked him." That's why she did it. She's so sad right now!
"She told me that if Nate left her, she would... Go to the FBI and tell them where Nate's Dad is hiding out. So I really didn't have a choice." Dan is amazed, because that's the kind of awesomeness he always pretends he commands, but now here she is just naturally being that way. He tries to hold her, but she pulls away and looks out into the city; he watches her, not crying, and puts his arm softly across her shoulders, looking out toward the future together. She lets him. "Love may fade with the season, but some friendships are year-round." I can't be bothered by that. I'm happy with everybody right now. How weird. I love you Gossip Girl, and our year-round love affair. Send Serena balls-out fucking crazy next week and destroy Dan from the soles of his feet to the top of his pointy gorgeous little head, and we'll call it even. XOXO!
